After an eventful few months, the league final restarts with SJFC U11 now playing 9-a-side with 11-aside rules. The first game of the season was away to Fullerians, it was a beautiful day and the boys were pumped to get the season started. After a short warm up the game kicked off. SJFC put pressure straight away – this resulted in many early chances which were unfortunately not taken. With a new 3 man defensive line, the team were strong at the back allowing the attackers to continually push forward. The pressure finally paid off and SJFC went 1..2..3…4 goals ahead all scored by Aadam, even with Ali in goal saving a one on one Fullerians managed to get one back just before half time giving the boys a commanding lead going in the second half. In the second half Ahmed added to the goal tally, the boys slightly tired and Fullerians had more confidence with the extra man (being 4 goals up the winning team can allow the opposition to have an extra man). The last quarter both teams were awarded a penalty, both Aliabbas and the opposition scoring, as well as Aadam adding his 5th of the game. Final goal of the day was scored by Asadali – his first for SJFC, a cross from the left into the middle of the box and he volleys it in! The boys pressed well, excellent team work between defence and attack, playing the ball out from the goalkeeper. After a long break the lack of fitness in the last parts of the game were evident and we look to work hard as team during training to reach the next level.
