Rayyaan Ali Merali

On 20th May 2017, Tier 2 played against Barcelona Young Stars. Barcelona played very well, dominating the game but SJFA never let that affect them. The boys never gave up, they kept on trying to push forward and try to score goals. They also showed excellent defending at times and good goal keeping saves. Barcelona scored over 10 goals with 2 goals scored by SJFA, the scorers for SJFA were Aadam (1) and Husayn (1).

Under 10 Match report:
The boys of our tier really enjoy the feeling of playing in a league.
This was our B Team’s third game, after they had drawn and lost previously.
SJFA vs London Wizards B

The team managed by Bruce was:
Suhail Merali (GK)
Ali Ismail
Adam Valjy
Ali Dewji
Husayn Ismail
Jabir Dhalla
Hussain Merchant
Yusuf Shahrestani

I played a diamond formation throughout. I started with Hussain, Husayn, and Ali Dewji as substitutes.

All the boys played really well, and a special mention to Hussain Merchant who had a great game in defence. We also got to see Adam playing in the middle for once, and this definitely looked like it suited him better.

We managed to score a bunch of goals, with Ali Ismail especially battling hard up front.

Unfortunately, at the same time we let in a load of goals, and we struggled at times to cope with the attacking football of the opposition.

The game finished SJFA 7 – 13 London Wizards B

The boys played really well, and everyone gave 100%. We have seen a real development in players. Jabir gave his 100% making some great interceptions, Hussain was solid and tackled well, Adam pushed forward and was a threat, Ali Ismail scored a few goals through determination, Suhail pulled off some great saves, Yusuf ran up and down and covered all areas of the pitch, and Husayn and Ali Dewji linked up with a lot of skill as they have been doing all season.

What we learned

  • We will try and work on passing the ball in short and tight spaces

Our motto: we back our skills, no matter who the opposition
As the season has now officially ended, we will have a break for the sacred month of Ramadan. However, as coaches we have 2 or 3 training sessions lined up.

After Eid, we will be embarking upon Salaam Cup where I feel we have a real chance, inshallah.

Under 12 Match report:
On the 20th of May, the Stanmore U12 Team A gathered to play their futsal fixture at Harefield Academy. We were playing against The London Wizards.

The squad for the game was as follows:
Team A v London Wizards:
Ali Hadi Govani (C)
AliAbbas Suleiman (GK)
Ali Khatau
Ali Sheikh
Hassan Merali
Husayn Yahya Merali
Shaahid AP

Unfortunately, this will be one of the easiest match reports that I have had to write.

The London Wizards were made to look like Wizards! Although this was only our third ever game of Futsal, the boys ‘were not at the races’ and the London Wizards took full advantage. We lost the fixture 9-0 and it could and should have been more if not for our goalkeeper Ali Abbas Suleiman once again!

We hardly tested their keeper and could not string many passes together. Without doubt our opposition were well drilled and experienced, however, my personal disappointment was the fact that I have seen these boys play weekly for a long time and know they are better than what this lacklustre performance displayed.

We have to look at every defeat as being a victory in itself and focus on the positives, we are gaining more experience in Futsal and can see the rewards that can be reaped by dedicating more time to this version of the game. A defeat leaves us all disappointed, however, we dust ourselves off and we go again and look forward to the upcoming tournaments after Mahe Ramadhan.
