Saturday afternoon, heavy rain, Stanmore pull up to Finchley for a league game. Spirits were high and energy was good, ready to play on an astro pitch where we can play the Stanmore way. The starting 11 was filled with youth, with Hussein the skipper taking one for the team playing in goals and the Valjy brothers leading the lines upfront; pace and power.
Our opposition were a development team also filled with youth, energy and ball playing ability. Stanmore struggled to get going in the first have with minimal possession and a lack of aggression, we went into half time 0-3 down against a great team.
After an inspiring half time talk by coach abs; urging us to increase the energy levels and fight whilst making a couple of tactical changes, we head out for the second half ready to get back into the game. The next 45 minutes was a lot better from Stanmore; solid defensive shape as well as bravery not the ball but unfortunately we were unable to get any points from the fixture with the game ending 0-5.
After a debrief at the end of the game, we discussed what we learnt and the team is ready to implement those things in training and into future games.
