SJ U8 return after lockdown with aplomb.

On a brisk Saturday morning, the parents of the match day U8 squad filled their thermoses, warmed up the cars and made the journey to High Wycombe. Today’s opponents were the  Holy Trinity Juniors U8 Foxes.

Coach Mustafa Muraj and Coach Sadik Merali – magnetic clip board in hand – took the SJ U8’s through the pre-match team talk and warm-up.

After a long break from football during the lockdown, the boys were excited to see one another – such a strong team spirit and camaraderie had been built in the preceding months. In fact, the recent Sunday skills training via Zoom had added to the anticipation.

The SJ U8’s last outing – which seemed like an age ago – was a feisty, end-to-end encounter which we edged 5-4. Certainly wasn’t one for the faint hearted!

The first half kicked off, and it was clear the SJ U8’s understood the game plan – keep a solid defence, maintain disciplined passing and break on the counter.

SJ’s were first off the mark, scoring with a solid passing move. However, the U8 Foxes soon equalised with a quick break. SJ U8 regained composure, kept their coolness and soon added two more, going into half time 3-1 up.

In the second half, SJ U8 scored with a penalty, and soon added a further three on the trot, to lead 7-1! A fantastic display of attacking prowess. The defence were equally on-form, nullifying the U8 Foxes midfield play.

The U8 Foxes did manage to capitalise on a momentary defensive lapse, but this was again cancelled out by SJ U8’s next attack!

This impressive performance was testament to the coaches preparation, tactical instructions and well-timed substitutions. The boys were quick to thank Coach Sadik and Coach Mustafa.

The games now come thick and fast, and the boys hope to build on this recent success.

YUSUF MERALI – as always, quick with the ball and solid attack. Excellent contributor to this match. Scored 2 goals.

OWAIS CHANDOO – a pleasure to watch him play. Fantastic defence & passing.

HUSAYN ALI KHIMJI – an awesome display of midfield & defence throughout this match. Scored 1 goal.

NADHIRALI RAJWANI – we’ve always known him for his solid defending, but this match was just an outstanding performance.

ALI RAHEMANI – wherever we looked, Ali was there. A brilliant all rounder and a proper goal assistant.

JAVADALI MURAJ – entertained us with his outstanding left footed free kicks & corners, not to mention a penalty. Scored 5 goals.

MUHAMMAD HAMZAH MURAJ – he was the core of our defence this match. Very quick with the ball and some great passes.

ADIL HUSAYN WALJI – whenever we were on the attacking spree, he was always there with a surprise. Demonstrated brilliant skills.

The final score was 8-2 to SJ U8’s.
