We arrived at a windy Knebworth recreation ground full of confidence gagging for a game after last week’s abandoned match and 2 wins on the bounce before that.
The intense warm-up was geared towards preparing us for the Bobbly and muddy pitch. We got off to a great start with an early goal from Mutz B corner, after a bit of ping pong in the box, Abbasali Blue tucked it in with a neat finish.
Our joy was short-lived though, as Knebworth scored directly from the next corner.
There was a lot of back and forth of possession, with no side managing to control the game really.
Half time came with the score at 1-1, and with coaches’ words still ringing in our ears, we started off the 2nd half with much more energy and direction. However we go hit on the counter, and we found ourselves a goal down.
They followed that up with a 3rd goal from a throw-in, we didn’t clear our lines well, and they scored with a good finish in off the far post.
This called for us to show our mental strength, and show it we did. We strung a few passes together, Amirali played the ball well to go through into the dee, and the defender stuck out a leg to concede a penalty. The resulting penalty was never a doubt with Amirali doing what he does best and sticking it into the bottom right-hand corner.
Buoyed from that, we pushed on. Abbasali with a great through ball finding Yaseen, who ran in, beat the offside trap, controlled the ball really well, and finished off a brilliant goal from an acute angle.
Momentum had now shifted and we should have finished the game off, but it wasn’t meant to be, they came up the other end, with a cross from the right side, their striker had a free header, and at the second attempt bundled the ball home.
A tough loss to take, but we will come back stronger, that is for sure.
