SJFA attends Scotland Yard Iftaar

On Friday 2nd June, SJFA Head Shafique Govani was invited together with the FA Head of Diversity Kevin Coleman to an Iftaar at New Scotland Yard.
This event was organised by Commander Mak Chishty, who was Britain’s most senior Muslim police officer. Equipped with a law degree, he joined the Metropolitan Police as Commander for North London in 2011 where he was responsible for policing Enfield, Barnet, Camden, Islington. Commander Chisty was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal in Her Majesty’s New Year Honours in 2009 for distinguished police service.

Part of Commander’s remit was to spearhead the Metropolitan police community outreach programme and at the event acknowledgement and appreciation was extended to various individuals representing different communities. The occasion also marked the Commander’s retirement where the guests recognised and applauded his services.

Traditionally a multi-faith event provided a good networking opportunity for the SJFA where a number of representatives were actively involved in other communities’ sports departments. This event was aligned with the SJFA objective of building, expanding and strengthening external relationships.
