On Sunday 29 October 2017, the following boys represented SJFA U14s against the FA Disability Talent Hub at Hampton School, Hampton, a 45 minute drive away from Harefield Academy.
Reza Masoumain (Captain)
Ali Abbas Dossa (GK)
Ali Haadi Govani
Husayn Yahya Merali
The Talent Hub, one of only 13 across the country, supports young footballers who have celebral palsy, hearing impairments or are partially sighted.
We played two matches in total, a seven-a-side outdoor match split into 2 x 15 minute halves and a 25 minute indoor futsal match.
The outdoor match was played in excellent spirit and some exceptional football was played by both sides through- out. When we had the ball, the boys moved it around nicely with crisp passing and movement and on a number of occasions we were caught out on the counter attack although we managed to keep a clean sheet. The score for the outdoor match (I think) was 4-0 in the first 15 minutes and 5-0 in the second 15 minutes. Goals were scored and shared across the team.
As we had expected the indoor futsal was completely different ball game. The indoor team were mainly hard of hearing/deaf including the head coach of them team who used sign language to pass messages to his players and call substitutions.
It is fair to say we were outplayed on many fronts (speed, space, quick passing and movement off the ball) and were comfortably beaten 9 – 1 (I think) was final score as began to lose count towards the end. Our only goal came from Kumail Merali. It was a very humbling experience all round.
A huge thank you to the boys for playing respectfully for the most part and trying their best in both matches
