With a re- shuffle of the first team squad due to injuries, the group of players were keen, enthusiastic and wanted to show that they could step in and be counted and face Al Khoei and the severe weather conditions on Saturday afternoon. Donni’s debutants struck first off a rebound from captain marvel, Salmaan Davdani who was impressive through out the match.
One of three in defence he managed to get up the pitch to nod home a simple but important first goal.Substitutions were made after twenty minutes, with Al Khoei having more possession but not capitalising, SJ finally get a throw in, Alireza Moosa lets the ball run past his right side and from just outside the penalty area and he strikes the ball into the roof of the net. What a goal, and an example of sheer power and timing from the smallest player on the pitch. 2-0 SJ. Whether it was complacency or tired legs within a few minutes Al Khoei scramble in two goals 2-2. The game is tightly poised and in the last twenty minutes, a final chance to make substitutions.
Adam Chandoo, playing centre midfield and controlling the game linked up well with Alireza (striker). Al Khoei were resorted to playing counter attacking football, with SJ having majority of possession. Central defender Qasim Suleman made several crucial tackles, a stalwart in defence, He got the ball to Adam with some quick and precise passing between him and Zainali Bandali the ball drops to Moosa, and he clinically finishes the move with the ball ending up in the bottom right hand corner of the goal. 3-2 SJ. Al-Khoei however, show some extra energy and are only stopped by some great tracking back by the SJ midfield and negating any attacking threat.
A couple of dubious and contentious decisions by the referee, one in the penalty box and the other just outside, SJ would have been clearly ahead. Fear not, the final goal came from non other than Adam Chandoo who clearly deserved it. SJ 4-2 Al Khoei. The final score being 4-2 to SJ.
An impressive performance from a squad who are now starting to understand each other having only played a few times as a collective. Every single player showed heart and dug deep to grind out a superb result.
Special mentions go out to the defence with strong performances from Qasim and Salmaan. The divine inspiration came from ADAM and MOOSA.
