The day started in overcast conditions with the sun peeking through the clouds. Welcome news for all of the players who had been involved with the last fixture in which rain fell throughout the fixture.
The first half started promisingly with fantastic defensive play from the entire team with the back four doing their job along with the three in midfield tracking well and halting some fiendish opposition attacks. MZ, our keeper, made a couple of excellent saves early on to keep the game goalless. However offensively our forwards seemed isolated with a missing link between our midfield and forwards. This was probably due to no natural strikers being available for selection on the day, and against physical opposition it was difficult for anyone to hold the ball up. On the brink of half time, an opposing winger took on two of our players out wide and put in a ball reminiscent of Herrera’s vs Arsenal, that was slow and sneaked through the box just out of reach of our defence and a scuffed shot ballooned over MZ turning into a seemingly outstanding chip.
The second half started and we conceded early on, unluckily. We then held them out for a brief period before starting to attack more leaving ourselves exposed once or twice, and combined with an excellent opposition press, which led to us conceding 3 more goals toward the end. The 5-0 score line could just have easily been 0-0 and was completely unreflective of how we played.
MOTM went to Zahid for his excellent play in midfield.
Thank you to Mazharali Uncle and Hasnain Doni Uncle for their management before and on the day.
