Stanmore were looking to get their first win of the season vs Knebworth, a team they had previously lost to last season. The game started well for Stanmore, who were putting pressure on Knebworths high line, and some nice passing between Maz, Amirali and Murtaza led to Yaseen being put through on goal and slotting away a tidy left foot finish, only to find the linesmans flag up for offside. Later in the half, Murtaza crossed in an in-swinging ball over the top of the defence which Yaseen headed past the keeper, only to find the linesman flagging again, leading to a lot of frustration within the team at the officiating. However Stanmore continued the fight and some nice play between Yaseen and Murtaza led to a nice goal by Murtaza, giving Stanmore the lead at half time.
The second half started the same, with Murtaza driving through the Knebworth defence, taking a shot which the keeper could only parry straight to the feet of Yaseen, who calmly slotted in the rebound, giving SJFC a two goal cushion. Unfortunately Stanmore took the foot of the gas, and Knebworth did not give up, taking a pot shot from 40 yards out which managed to find its way through the keepers league, cutting the Stanmore lead down to one and giving them the momentum. Knebworth then won a corner which was whipped in to their big man up top, who calmly guided the ball with his head past the keeper giving them the equaliser. Stanmore still kept fighting, forcing a few saves from the keeper with two nice strikes Baqer, but it was Knebworth who would prevail with another long range effort which deflected off the defender and past the goalkeeper in the dying moments of the game. Final result Stanmore 2-3 Knebworth, in what was another disappointing result for Stanmore.
