Attention switched from the heat of Doha to the cold of Maple Cross on an Autumn Saturday morning.

SJFC lined-up against unfamiliar opposition for a Shield match. Many of our players had barely recovered from a late night on the badminton court for the SJ Father & Son tournament.

Q1 was a cagey affair. Both SJFC and Legacy enjoyed equal possession and were evenly matched, but created limited clear goal scoring opportunities.

SJFC started to settle in Q2, and quickly took advantage with a two goal lead thanks to goals from Adil and RaihanAli. 2-0 to SJFC!

Parents nerves started to settle and enjoyed the fresh chai courtesy of The Hubb.

A further goal followed in Q3 from Ilyas. 3-0 to SJFC.

The final quarter gave SJFC an opportunity to shuffle the pack, as Legacy – with limited options with substations – started to wane. SJFC’s dominance showed with three further goals – two goals from Murtaza and one from Javadali.

Final score 6-0. Above all, the game was played in a competitive yet fair spirit by both sets of players.

Husayn Kermali – Solid defensive play, and capitalised on opportunities to push into the Legacy half.

Nadhirali Rajwani – Excellent performance, mixing up clearances with measured distribution.

Husayn Ali Khimji – Strong in defence, clearing the ball and linking play down the left wing.

Ilyas-Ali Nazarali – Solid midfield performance, keeping possession and duly rewarded with a fine goal.

Javadali Muraj – Provided confidence in goal during the first half and clear attacking intent in the second.

RaihanAli Dewji – Played on both the left and right wings to great effect. Combining defensive and attacking duties.

Yusuf Merali – Held the offensive line well and made numerous runs into the Legacy final third.

Murtaza Mehrali – Excellent all-round performance, capped with two well taken goals.

Adil Husayn Walji – Composed display, and scored the critical first goal to set the team on the way.
