SJFC U11 played their 3rd game of the season against an opposition who we lost and drew to last year.
The weather was on our side this week and SJFC kicked off putting early pressure on the opponents just like previous matches. It was a very closely contested first quarter with both teams putting on a good show but not working any clear cut opportunities – ending in a quarter end stalemate at 0-0.
A short team talk and 2 substitutions later, we kicked off for the second quarter with our usual high press. The team started to win their tackles and Hassan managed to manoeuvre his way through the Westwood defence and poke in his first goal as an SJFC player – running to the halfway line sliding on his needs to celebrate.
A tight end to the first half resulted in SJFC leading 1-0 going into the second half of the game. Westwood started the second half the stronger team and worked a few chances which were all dispatched brilliantly by Ali Muktar in goal, a great counter attack opportunity resulted in Ahmad low crossing the ball across the opposition penalty box for Ammar Ravji running in to score at the back post.
Westwood still pushed hard to get back into the match with the defence of Amaar Karawalli, Basher and Hamza holding firm – but when they did break through Ali Muktar was on hand to save not once, twice but a triple save keeping SJFC in the lead.
Westwood did manage to work a goal, very soon after that, Ali Mukhtar slides a goal kick to Hamza at left back, he then works the pass into Aadam in midfield who threads the ball though to Ahmad. Ahmad flies down the left wing past one, past another, into the box and pulls the ball back to the back post for Muhammed Mahdi who calmly takes a touch and slots the ball into the back of the net bringing SJFC back into a two goal lead.
After another save from Ali Muktar and a penalty scored by Westwood it was set up for a tense last 5mins with SJFC leading 3-2, the team continued to attack and Aadam floated past two defenders to score his 8th goal of the season and take the game out of Westwood’s reach.
A good performance from the team resulting in a 4-2 win with special mention to a stunning man of the match winning performance by our goalkeeper Ali Mukhtar.
