Hat-trick hero Mahdi Hassan Lalji inspired Stanmore Jafferys to a resounding 5-0 victory in their opening game of the season.
The silky midfielder netted three goals in a blistering first-half performance as the U8s got off to a perfect start to the league campaign.
The side – kitted out in their retro gold kits – pressed high from the off, putting the visitors under pressure on the hallowed Maple Cross turf.
Supported brilliantly by Mehdi Bhimji’s distribution in midfield and Hussain Dhalla’s ball retention up front, Mahdi Hassan put the game out of reach for the opposition within the first 15 minutes.
At the back, goalkeepers Hassan Daya and Zaynali Mohamed – who rotated a half each in goal – pulled off several important saves to maintain the clean sheet. They were also impressive with their distribution from goal kicks.
It meant that, at half-time, Stanmore had a comfortable 3-0 lead – but with Confidence Through Football showing some offensive prowess as the half came to a close, there was no time for complacency.
Mehdi Bhimji smashed the fourth into the bottom corner shortly after the restart as the high press yielded fruit once more.
Danyaal Panju and Mehdi Lakha put in commanding performances at the back, helping Stanmore resist second-half pressure from the visitors.
At the other end, a gluttony of chances fell Stanmore’s way after some blistering counter-attacks, but the net failed to bulge.
To cap off a marvellous performance, Muhammad Moosa hammered a low cross into the roof of the net with just minutes to go, sending the home fans into delirium.
The lads will do well to match this level of performance going forward – they’ve all set a high standard!
