In a week where our community has lost dear and loved ones – community spirit and unity have shone amidst the sadness. This was evident as our young lions lined-up for a key league match.

Quarter 1 saw both SJ and Panthers display excellent range of passing and movement. SJ fortunately managed to score the only goal of the quarter, ending one-nil up.

In quarter 2, the two teams had equal possession and opportunities to score. However,  quarter 3 began with the Panthers scoring an early goal. This seemed to rally the SJ players, and led to two quick goals to assume a 3 – 1 lead.

In quarter 4, SJ’s really showed their domination and performed superbly. Slick passing and counter attacking play led to a fourth SJ goal. SJ’s were unlucky not to add to their tally, the Panther’s keeper made a triple save and other fine stops.

Some very well-timed tactical changes and substitutions by Coach Mustafa contributed to the SJ success. This included no less than three goalkeepers enjoying stints in goal!

Husayn Kermali, Nadhirali Rajwani, Husayn Ali Khimji – The defence performed superbly against the strong Panthers’ strikers, who typically played on the counter attack.

Yusuf Merali, Zachariya Mohamd, Ali Rehmani, Muhammad Hamzah Muraj – The midfielders battled across the pitch, particularly in Q2 and Q3 when the SJ victory was dependent on controlling the match.

Javadali Muraj, Hassan Merali – Strong attacking performance against the Panthers’ defence, displaying perseverance even when chances were limited.

Final score 4-1, including a man-of-the match performance with a hat-trick Zachariya, and an all-round fantastic contribution from the full team.

Al fateha in memory of our lost ones.
