On a wet Autumn morning, parents and footballers made the journey to Chalfont St Peter for the second match of the season. After a narrow defeat the previous week, the team were motivated and hungry.

Stanmore Jaffery’s FC U9’s lined-up against the talented St James U9 Panthers City.

The first half saw a strong wave of attacks from the U9 Panthers. SJFC U9’s stood firm as a solid defensive unit, looking to break on the counter at any opportunity.

In the second half, SJFC U9’s began to settle and became more comfortable on the ball showcasing team work and sticking to the coach’s game plan. The SJFC U9’s put on a strong show and the parents responded with shouts of encouragement. Deep into the third quarter, the offensive pressure paid off and a defensive mix-up amongst the Panthers led to the ball trickling into the net; one-nil to the SJFC U9’s!

The fourth quarter started earnestly with a sense there was still a goal to follow. The SJ FC U9’s continued to press in search of a second, whilst the defence withheld the U9 Panther’s stealth-like attacks. As the game headed towards its conclusion, a fast break from the Panther’s led to their equaliser, one a piece. Minutes later, the referee signalled the end of the match. Honours even as the U9 Panthers share the spoils with SJFC U9. On balance, a fair result.
