As soon as we arrived, it was time for the pre-match warm up. After two difficult games in the beginning of the first season in the league, SJFA U16s were desperate to improve and try to take something away from the game.
Almost immediately after kick-off, maybe five minutes into the match, SJFA were 1-0 up – the first goal of the season – with a composed goal from MJ into the bottom right corner.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t long before the equaliser after the referee made a poor decision in awarding a penalty for handball which allowed the opponents to get back in to the game.
SJFA were sloppy in clearing their lines which helped the other team take the lead and go 2-1 up.
The goals kept coming for the home team and went into half time with a four goal lead at 5-1.
From an almost perfect start the game, the second half was very much the contrary and the heads of the SJFA players were noticeably dropping as the second half progressed. Chances were few for the visitors because a shaky home team at the start became a much more confident side. With an unfair reflection on the visitors, the final whistle blew with the end result 10-1.
Man of the match awarded to Abbas Datoo for a battling captain performance in tough circumstances.
Many thanks must go to the SJFA coaches for taking time out by coming and helping the players as best as they can but their wisdom was far from what was shown on the pitch. Also, to the few parents who came. Hopefully, next match, we can have more supporters to push the players to try even harder.
Since it is still early on in the season with three games in, it is still a learning curve and one that can be worked on.
